Mr. Ivan Normandeau, AMBM President, issued this statement following the announcement of an investment of more than $15 million from the Building Sustainable Communities (BSC) Program and the Urban/Hometown Green Team (GT) Program to support nearly 500 projects in Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities:

The joint announcement was made on Friday, July 8th, 2022 by the Honourable Eileen Clarke, Minister of Municipal Relations, and the Honourable Rochelle Squires, Minister of Families and Minister responsible for Francophone Affairs.

We welcome this significant investment by the Province of Manitoba, which recognizes the importance of supporting our local governments and their community partners in the implementation of inclusive and structuring projects that also contribute to the development of our Official Language Minority Communities (OLMCs) within their territory. At the same time, it is an invaluable lever for Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities in their efforts to improve the quality of life of their citizens.

By providing financial support for the initiatives of our members through the BSC, the GT and other programs, the department of Municipal Relations is playing a key role in the implementation of our Municipal Economic Recovery Strategy 2021-2024 and in the creation of enabling conditions to (re)build prosperous and resilient Francophone and bilingual communities throughout Manitoba.

This announcement reflects the Province of Manitoba’s commitment to invest in our communities in a sustainable manner.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Stefanson government and expanding opportunities for municipal-provincial partnerships to work together on a bold and compelling economic recovery.
