The President of the Association of Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (AMBM) and Reeve of the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie, Mr. Ivan Normandeau, issued the following statement after the federal elections on April 28th, 2025 congratulating Prime Minister Mark Carney, who will form a minority Liberal government, as well as all Members of Parliament from Manitoba who will advocate for and address the needs of our communities. In this regard, the AMBM is ready to collaborate to fully activate our bilingual advantage, an essential pillar of Canadian prosperity:

On behalf of Manitoba’s bilingual leadership, I wish to extend my sincere congratulations to the Right Honourable Mark Carney, who will assume the role of the 24th Prime Minister of Canada, leading a minority Liberal government. I also want to commend the 14 newly elected Members of Parliament from Manitoba who will represent Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities in Ottawa and work to propose concrete and sustainable solutions to address the crucial issues facing our communities.

This is a pivotal moment for the entire country, and we are ready to build up prosperous and resilient Francophone and bilingual communities across Canada. Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities are key players in the country’s economic, social, and environmental transformation.

The AMBM is committed to working closely with all political actors, including different parties, public decision-makers, and Manitoba MPs representing Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities. With its in-depth knowledge of local realities, the AMBM aims to advance priority issues for our Francophone and bilingual communities by proposing solutions tailored to their needs.

Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities are experiencing sustained demographic growth, exceeding 8%, compared to 5% for the rest of Manitoba. This dynamic brings its share of challenges but also great opportunities to strengthen our communities.

It is time to team up, to activate our full economic potential of our two official languages, an important pillar for Canadian prosperity, by relying on the structuring role of Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities. This involves strategic investments in infrastructure and housing, local economic development, a qualified bilingual workforce, environmental sustainability, and better coordination of bilingual government services. Let’s prepare the ground together.

Together, we can strengthen our impact. The AMBM is resolutely committed to collaborating with the federal government, elected officials, and our partners to develop concrete and sustainable solutions. Firmly rooted in their local realities, Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities play a central role in Canada’s growth and influence.

The AMBM is the voice of bilingual municipal leadership in the province of Manitoba. It represents 16 municipal governments committed to offering services in both official languages to their residents. Together, these municipalities represent the majority of Manitoba’s population. Manitoba’s bilingual municipal leadership also leads the AMBM Group, a consortium of three organizations with complementary mandates: the AMBM, the Economic Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (Conseil de développement économique des municipalités bilingues du Manitoba, or CDEM) and Eco-West Canada (EWC), which specializes in the green economy. Complementing each other, these three organizations actively contribute to the development, vitality and sustainability of the province’s Official Language Minority Communities (OLMC) and the province as a whole.
