The Association of Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities (AMBM) is proud to introduce its new President, Ivan Normandeau.

At a first statutory meeting of the Board of Directors following the municipal elections in October, the newly elected representatives of bilingual municipalities were called to elect a new president for a one-year term.

Their choice was Ivan Normandeau, a proud Franco-Manitoban, native and long-time resident of La Broquerie, Manitoba.

“Bilingual municipal leadership is strong and unifying. I am ready to take action by and for our bilingual municipalities. The future of the AMBM is promising and motivates me. Together, let’s build proud, sustainable and vibrant communities,” said the new AMBM president.

Ivan Normandeau has been a councilor for the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie since 2014. Ivan has been employed at Caisse Financial Group for 23 years now, he is the manager of urban area commercial accounts.

A man of community action, Ivan has long contributed to the development of his Francophone community and his bilingual municipality of La Broquerie, “where life is beautiful and where life is good”. He was President of the Corporation de développement communautaire (CDC) de La Broquerie and Treasurer of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste de La Broquerie.

Ivan Normandeau continues his community involvement as Treasurer of the La Broquerie Minor League Baseball, Secretary-treasurer of the Board of Directors of Community Futures Triple R and member of the Board of Directors of the Bibliothèque Saint-Joachim Library.

In addition to the arrival of the Rural Municipality of Taché into the AMBM family and the newly incorporated Eco-West Canada, the AMBM is preparing for its future. Executive Director Justin Johnson noted: “New municipal councils. A new board of directors. A new president for the AMBM. A new strategic plan to be redefined. I am motivated by the prospect of supporting bilingual municipalities and its leadership to create a real collaborative impact on Manitoba’s bilingual economy and identity.”

The members also elected Justin Bohémier, Mayor of the Rural Municipality of Taché, as Vice-President, Conrad Durand, member of the Local Urban District of the Village of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, as Secretary, and Lilliane Sorin, Administrative Assistant of the Village of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes in the Rural Municipality of Lorne, as Treasurer and Administrative Directors’ Representative.

The AMBM would also like to acknowledge the exemplary commitment and determination of Marc Marion, outgoing president, who guided the AMBM throughout its mandate and thank him for his 15 years of hard work as president.

As a catalyst for development, prosperity and the sustainability of bilin- gual communities in Manitoba, the AMBM acts as a political and strategic leader to regroup, support and represent a strong and united municipal governance.
