AMBM President Ivan Normandeau issued the following statement on the occasion of the Government of Manitoba’s Proclamation to mark the 2021 International Day of La Francophonie in Manitoba:

In this month of La Francophonie 2021, the AMBM warmly welcomes the Manitoba Government’s Proclamation to mark the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20 and the raising of the Franco-Manitoban flag at the Legislative Building earlier today.

With this gesture and this document, the Province recognizes and endorses the historical and current contribution of Manitoba’s Francophonie to the economy, diversity and richness of the province of Manitoba.

In these difficult times, such an announcement is enthusiastically received by our Association whose members, Manitoba’s bilingual municipalities, are working hard to provide Francophone communities in the province with the infrastructure and spaces for the French language to flourish.

On behalf of Manitoba’s bilingual municipal leadership, I wish everyone a happy 2021 International Day of La Francophonie in Manitoba.
